Pivot
Retail stores and businesses are driven by customer reviews and feedback. It provides businesses with an understanding of their strengths and allows them to evaluate opportunities for improvement. Consumer feedback can also be leveraged by managers to identify employee training opportunities.
The platform allows customers to rate their interactions with store associates. The performance of individual store associates is then collected and used to identify actionable insights that retail managers can utilize when training and mentoring their employees.
The challenge presented for this project was to redesign the administrative tablet platform, Pivot, allowing store managers to easily reference associate and transaction insights at-a-glance.

Competitive Analysis
After taking inventory of seven different competitors in the administrative platform landscape, the three main takeaways identified were:
1.
2.
3.
Persona
The Pivot platform has two target audiences: regional and boutique store managers at retail chains and adult retail shoppers aged 18-60. For this rebrand, the store managers were the main priority as they are the primary day to day users of the platform.

Design Principles
The following design principles were provided by the user experience team:
01
Cater to Your Audience
Focus on the audience, the purpose, and the storyline for each visualization
02
Provide Clarity
Present the data with the utmost accuracy, transparency and clarity
03
Be Efficient
Strive to create effortless experiences for your audience
Exploring the Design Direction
I created three coordinating mood board and style tile options that explored varying aesthetic directions for the Pivot platform.

I ultimately moved forward with this jewel toned design concept for the Pivot redesign. This concept marries a polished, engaging look with straightforward, approachable data visualizations. The focus of this concept is easily digestible, approachable measurement indicators that can be interpreted at a glance.

Identifying User Needs
Multiple rounds of user testing of high fidelity screens based on provided wireframes revealed the following:
01
EASY DATA
Users desire a platform that makes data entry more palatable and interactive, and less of a chore.
02
RELEVANT NUMBERS
Graphs, charts and other data visualizations need to be clear and serve a specific function; irrelevant info is merely a distraction.
03
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
Allow managers to easily identify employee improvement and training opportunities in a way that is constructive and not discouraging.
Sometimes the skill level of some team members is not to the standard, and it’s important to educate them in a way that’s inspiring.

Style Guide
I utilized zeroheight to create a style guide for the future development of the Pivot platform, with references to stylization, color, layout and more.
Next Steps
Based on feedback from the final round of user testing, I’ve identified the following recommendations for continued development of the Pivot platform:
Calendar
Create a calendar feature that allows users to link their specific work schedule to their personal calendar accounts.
Metrics
Get more specific with the various information metrics and let users know how they’re determined (i.e. an optional pop-up box explaining how top and bottom performers are determined).
Onboarding
Create an optional onboarding experience to help users understand the various features offered within the platform.
